Umair A. Qadeer
Umair A. Qadeer is a Registered Patent Attorney and the Managing Partner of Hojka Qadeer. He has experience in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret law, with an emphasis in patent law. Umair has a breadth of patent law experience, including experience in patent preparation and prosecution, patent counseling and strategy, patent licensing and contracts, and patent litigation.
Umair has prepared and prosecuted U.S. and PCT patent applications in a variety of technologies. These technologies include pharmaceuticals, chemicals and chemical compositions, biotechnology, medical devices, clean technologies, materials science, food products, and mechanical devices.
He has advised clients regarding patentability, patent validity, patent infringement, and the freedom to operate, and has provided clients with legal opinions on these issues. He also has conducted intellectual property due diligence reviews for corporate transactions, including reviewing the patent portfolios and technological capabilities of target companies and advising clients regarding patent validity and the freedom to operate.
Umair’s experience with intellectual property transactional matters includes preparing and reviewing intellectual property agreements related to joint research, confidentiality, and non-disclosure, and advising clients regarding patent licensing issues.
He also has experience in patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation. Umair has worked on patent litigation matters in a variety of technical areas, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and biotechnology.
Umair previously worked as an associate at Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear, a leading intellectual property law firm based in California. Prior to law school he was a graduate student in chemistry, where he studied the reaction of polar vinyl monomers with single-site olefin polymerization catalysts, and also worked in the petroleum refining industry.
Umair is licensed to practice in California and Illinois, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He received undergraduate and graduate degrees in chemistry from Harvard and the University of Chicago, respectively, and a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School.
